Iron Blow

Iron Blow was the site for the earliest major mining venture beginning in 1883 in Queenstown, Tasmania. Originally Iron Blow worked as a gold mine before huge deposits of copper was discovered.

To take this photo you needed to walk out onto a long platform which overhangs the open cut mine and offers views of the surrounding Linda Valley.

It seemed wherever we went around the southwest of Tasmania we ran into Hillbillies. One guy rode his motorcycle to the top of the ridge directly opposite us to specifically to roll big rocks into the lake, fist pumping the air as each one roll down into the water below.

So to fit in we decided we would spend the next 15mins throwing rocks into the pit trying to reach the waters edge, each time screaming like we were swamp people. What a thrill……
